What could have been..

This mountain pass in the Spanish Sierra Nevada gives inspiration for the name of a novel.  It is named so to describe the moment when Muhammad XII was looking back and longing for his Granada palaces.

Identify the novel.

The answer to the previous question was: Camembert Cheese, which was immortalised in the painting, "The Persistence of Memory" by Salvador Dali.
