February 14, 2009 - The 2009 Sprite Slam Dunk Competition
The tall guy (Dwight) has a cape because Dwight won the slam dunk competition the previous year and had a Superman costume for the same (some innovative craziness). [This time around, Nate wore all green to represent Kryptonite, the nemesis of Superman - which turned out metaphorically well when Kryptonite beat Superman, so to speak]

  6. Nate Robinson, of the New York Knicks, did his best Lex Luthor impression when he donned an all-green uniform, along with green sneakers and a green basketball, to work as kryptonite against “Superman,” 2008 winner, Dwight Howard.

The people in the picture are Nate Robinson(in green) and Dwight Howard(in the superman cape).

This was during the 2009 Slam Dunk contest in February.

The tall guy has a cape because in this slam dunk contest, comics and basketball merged. It’s part of All-Star weekend. This isn’t the playoffs, the finals or even a regular game. They also have the 3-point contest, the skills contest, Horse, the Sophomore vs Rookie game. and a lot of other things that are meant to be light and fun.

  8. Person in green(short guy): Nate Robinson
Person in cape (tall guy) : Dwight Howard

When: Finals, the 2009 Sprite NBA Slam Dunk Championship.

why in heaven's name does the tall guy have a cape?
Dwight Howard had donned a "Superman gimmick" in 2008 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Championship where he emerged as the Winner. He agreed for a so-called
superman/kryptonate final for the 2009 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk Championship wherein he allowed Nate Robinson dressed in all green representing “Kryptonate”, a juxtaposition of the word Kryptonite, (to weaken his opponent), to leap over superman, Dwight Howard, who was wearing a red superman shirt and cape. In his final dunk Nate Robinson, 5’9’ tall jumped over Dwight Howard, 6’11’ tall and eventually won the contest.
